As usual a little help is needed.

I believe this type of coin is a lot like a 16D Merc and many fakes are around. Does this look like the real deal to you gentlemen and ladies ? Also what would a fair price be the coin in your opinion. I am not looking for a rip but just a fair price. I sure hope this is not listed by anyone that is on this board. I would be really embarassed if it is.

Thank You.

  • looks like a nice one to me Guessing that it's the 1d, in VFish, about $30-$40?? These were issued to help stop counterfieting of copper 1/2ds. Their size and weight was not profitable to reproduce.

    Just saw the auction, I would say the coin is way overpriced. image I could be a little bit low on my estimate, but not that low!!

    Thanks Terry.

    I will keep looking for a decent example that has a decent price.

    With the corrosion I would think VF is about as high as it would go also. I did not see the green untill it was blown up in photo shop.

    Cheers.

  • If it is in deed a Penny all in all it looks pretty decent, in the 2004 Spink it is listed at £50.00 (rougly $80-90.00) and £200.00 in XF. I got my XF/AU one for $150.00...

    I'm not aware of many if any modern or contemporary fakes.......

    Here is mine: {though a smaller image}

    I have seen "unc" reproductions of that penny on ebay, and the seller used to label it as such in the small print. I don't think they had the word "COPY" on the piece, however. Since the recent rule about posting "COPY" or "Reproduction" in the title, I haven't seen the guy.
