Why Kicked Off?

Kind of a spin of my last thread, but what were the reasons some of the members get kicked of the forums? Did they say a bunch of negative things about PSA?

Yeah.. The topic of PSA & the whole When It Was A Game, Inc. (WIWAG) ordeal got a lot of people booted off I think.

A handful of well intentioned native americans were discussing traditional habitats, there was a misspelling, one thing led to another, it got pretty ugly - best to let sleeping dogs lie.

Just google wiwag psa.. read whatever then when you've had enough read David Hall's statement here. I don't think anyone here wants another huge thread about this issue again.

I think vargha made a joke about PSA Airlines and one of Joe O's daughters, or something like that, and it was not taken in the spirit in which it was intended. Anyway, that thread was pulled and it was one of David's last posts. I don't think it was that alone; he was probably on double-secret probation for general irreverance to PSA and didn't even know it. As some of us probably still are!

Personally, I think vargha is back as dabighurt, doing the same thing with subtle tongue-in-cheek and reverse psychology. If PSA ever figures it out ...

anybody got a list of BANNED psaboard members?

    Lothar,

In order to retrieve that information you will need to hire Tom Cruise to break into the heavily fortified and protected vault at Newport Beach and steal the disavowed list.

PSA as an entity vis-a-vis forum moderators will accept a lot of crap thrown at them about PSA - but if they detect a constant pattern designed, simply, to discredit the company - especially without evidence - will not be tolerated and one can expect to be banned.

Using racially or other generally insensitive rhetoric will also get one the boot real fast.

Also, IMO, anyone who constantly "harasses" other board members on a regular basis - banishment.

Unsubstantiated remarks designed to affect the livelihood of another company may get someone banned unless they "retract" their statement - that has happened in the past.

These are reasons I have witnessed people having been removed permanently or temporarily (after making a retraction).

2004 was pretty lively around here, full of bannings, pulled threads, and retractions.

We had numerous "please don't respond to this thread, I just need to make this apology/retraction to avoid legal action/board banishment" statements.

Sometimes those threads were pulled or locked when people responded anyway, and some were flirting with disaster even in responding to the retraction.

Then of course we have the few who get really foul or the occassional racial/religious dissagreement.

    It's all very amusing.

It a shame when we go months anymore without a good "your mama" thread, or other heated debate. image

I am confused, people get kicked off for expressing their opinions. I was not around during this WIWAG era. I know that there are higher beings than us that are watching over usimage, but if one is not able to express their opinions or feelings on an issue without the fear of being banned, then are these forums serving their purpose? Even if someone should have an issue with PSA and expresses it on these forums, should they fear retribution? I can see if there are people on here that are making totaly false acusations being banned, but if it is an issue that has merit then why can't we discuss it here and come up with our own decisions on the issue? We can choose what posts to ignore or responed to.

    Stingray,

There are a couple issues that are just not to be talked about here, including WIWAG. Another involves a certain '63 Rose RC. Is it fair? Probably not. But it's been that way for a while, and I don't see it changing.

As I recall, last year saw Davillo and Topps Gun banned. BOTN was two years ago (?) I think. There have probably been others, but their names escape me.

  • There is a whole thread over on the net54 pre war board about people who were kicked off. I think Varga might have been the original author..........but not sure. I'm sure a search would bring the thread up, it actually was very entertaining.

Toppsgun was banned for a very good reason (from what I understand). As for the others, I think it's pretty subjective depending on which side of the fence you're standing on.

Most people who are banned usually return with a different name. I look forward to those 2 days every 3 months or so when Ylder comes back and rolls through usernames like Oprah through a sack of bonbons.

Heh. His last troll-through (aside from the usual flame-o-rama) included an offer to hack out your eBay negatives for cash. He had a couple people interested before he got banned. I wonder if they paid and what happened. At least I think that was him. He didn't deny it when called by that name, anyway.

I think you may be reading more into this than is there. You will not get banned for stating your opinion on a topic - people complain about the quality of PSA grading all the time - complain about slow service all the time. You can criticise PSA as long as you have data/evidence to back it up. One thing that disappoints the people at PSA is that they don't always get first crack at a problem - and if one thinks they have been treated badly - bring it up here - it will get attention pretty fast - at least it has in the past.

I'm not an apologist for PSA - but you will not get banned for bringing up sensitive topics like Wigwam - the moderators will pull the plug on the thread, not the person. If one persists to hammer a dead issue - then yes, you will go.

This is their forum and it's here, IMO, as a "marketing" tool, to further advance their product and allow people to have a place to talk. But just like when you go to your parent's house, there's stuff you wouldn't discuss there, just like here - if you get my drift.

You have to do something pretty egregious to get banned IMO.
