Some PSA 9 1979-80 Hockey In Play

Finally some psa 9 hockey has surfaced from this year on the bay. Will be interesting to see if it sparks any more out. I know rvc is in the mix. Hope to add a few to my set. Still to me, this is the most underated set to find in high grade. This go's for all sports from the 70's. I'd compare it to 1971 baseball. Just far fewer ever get submitted.

That's tempting. I'm still holding out for OPC, though.

I checked the completed auctions. Most PSA 9's didn't even sell for 9 or 10 dollars. For a blue bordered card, that's pretty low. That's why none are getting submitted. Many collector's lowball sets to death until none are submitted anymore. I feel that the day of serious PSA graded 70's collectors are long gone with the exception of a few guys. I remember a few years ago watching people fight over cards like a 1975 Topps Baseball Terry Hughes PSA 8. I'm sure they all overpaid in the long run, but the card market was exciting back then. It's hit a boring spell with almost nobody aggressively blowing through sets completing one after another. Guys like Stump used to make things exciting.

some of the 9's today closed in the $20's and $30's . the $10 psa 9's were surely a bargain.

I managed to pick up a couple for $10. Will finally be adding a few cards to my set. RVC, nice score on the Bobby Smith, that is one I wanted. I just went back and checked the complete's and few went higher than I thought. I could actually use a couple that didn't get bids. I'm sure they will be listed again soon. Kinda hit or miss on this set. For me, I love that the prices are still pretty cheap. Hockey right now is so far under the radar it's not even funny. I think one day this set will pick up, with higher prices and more sets getting registered. Once more people see how tough they are too find. You can go for months with not even seeing a psa 9 hit ebay. I missed that last batch of 9's that were on ebay. I can't believe not a one got a bid in that mini run. Was there something up with the seller????Don't know how I missed them. I wasn't even checking for 9's on these for awhile, because I just wasn't seeing them anymore and hockey is pretty much dead.....

hockey is out of favor now and this set is so cheap i dont see much downside . 25 yrs old , gretzky's rookie year, nice blue borders...
nhlfg-will be nice to see you add some to your set!
i sold a large lot of 8's to someone who will hopefully be adding their set to the registry.
