GAI Sequel

First, I want to thank those of you who replied to my original post. I don't know if it's a coincidence, or if the GAI people read these posts, but I got a call from one of their reps saying he had my card in his hand. He apologised for the delay and said it was because of some confusion concerning the LOA and that the card would be mailed Monday. He also said he would credit the fee back in compensation for the misunderstanding. Now, I've been told "it's in the mail" before, but for now I will give them the benefit of the doubt and retract my previous negative comments. I won't be completely satisfied until I have the card in my hand. Next time, however, I will choose PSA.

I'm glad you're getting your Tony C. back (if they aren't yanking your chain yet again). But there are a disturbing number of tales about GAI misplacing their customers' treasured items. Not sure if their processing is inept, or if some employee is helping himself to things that tickle his fancy, but this kind of thing will kill them if they don't straighten it out and then publicize what was wrong and how they fixed it.

They gave their business life a kickstart by essentially offering half-point bumps to dealers who switched their PSA stock to GAI. We can all think of a couple who bought into it. I don't think it was a blatant offer; I think it was more "Try us out, see how you like us." After half a dozen or twenty free bumps from PSA 8 to GAI 8.5, certain dealers got $$ in their eyes and made the move -- filling their catalogs and showcases with GAI cards that were once in PSA slabs.

That's kind of off the topic of losing submissions, but just another mark in the negative column, in my eye. It's a shame, because I think except for the cozy thing they're doing with dealers they're actually pretty decent graders. I don't have any love for GAI, but I do think PSA needs competition or we'll be looking at grading specials like $18 for a 30-day turnaround.

I have no doubt they read these boards. About a year ago, I bought a card on Naxcom from a dealer with the name Steve Rocchi. As soon as I talked about the purchase on these boards, the ID changed. It's apparently changed a couple more tims, and is now known as Athletic Promotional Events (unless Naxcom is reusing seller ID #'s).

It seems that GAI is playing the same ole song:

    Oops!...I did it again
I played with your heart, got lost in the mail
    Oh baby, baby
Oops!...You think it's on the way
But don't bet the farm.... image

In my opinion they are as shady as a 50 year old Oak tree. Anyone or company that "looses" multiple packages in transit with some frequency raises some serious red flags for me. Oh, and did I mention that they suck!

You got a call on a Saturday? That's not a coincident.
