Crazy unopened? wax box break.

Have you ever busted a wax box and several packs into the bust wondered if you should just sell the rest of the unopened packs individually or as a group due to their quality?

Last summer I bought an unopened? box of 1982 Donruss Golf wax. These boxes are rare and the cards are normally very off centered. Anyway, after opening about a third of the packs I was kicking myself for wasting $300 on the box and wondering if I should sell the rest of the unopened packs individually to cut my losses. The cards so far had been all 70/30 centered at best and plenty had rough cuts. I've opened about 10 boxes of these cards in the past and these were by far the worst. Whenever I get started opening packs I just can't seem to stop so I continued opening packs. Unfortunately, each opened pack just put me into a fouler mood. I doubt there was one card in the first 33 packs that would have graded a PSA 9, and that's without there being any corner damage. I was down to my last three packs and considered sending them into GAI for pack grading. As I said, once I get started opening packs I just can't stop. I opened the last three packs and the cards were all well centered with no rough cuts. The quality of the first 33 packs were nothing like that of the last 3 packs.

I sent in 5 cards from the last three pack and received the following grades.

# 20 Ben Crenshaw PSA 10
# 25 John Cook PSA 10
# 32 Hubert Green PSA 9
# 40 Leonard Thompson PSA 9
# 53 Fred Couples PSA 10 (Rookie card and still 1/1)

Does anyone else have a similar story they would like to share?

Remember, it only takes one pack to give you that gem.

Peter

That, IMExperience, is just an amazing story.

I've broken more '89 Donruss cases than I can count, and every time I got into an OC case the whole f'in thing ended up off center. I never--and I mean never- tripped into that 'miracle box' in a case of dogs.
