Bench 71 Keds Kedcard PSA 6

The highest graded of only 4 graded overall. Card is listed under item #5203607203, seller is wheres-geddy. Mr. J.R. Dolan, can you look at the scan and tell me if it compares to yours. How many other Kedcards were there? Any other background would also be helpful. Pretty neat. Thanks.

I'd like to learn, too. Were they on shoeboxes or something? There's nothing in my 9-year-old SCD.

They were cut off the lids of Keds shoeboxes. There were two types of different sizes. The larger cards were 2 per box, Bench and hoop star Willis Reed. The smaller were 4 per box: Bench, Reed, football star Bubba Smith, and tennis star Stan Smith. I don't know that they're particularly rare in raw form, but they're ugly and not very popular. Here's both varieties.

Edit to answer the question below: Blank cardboard on the back.

Do these have actual stats on the backs? Or anything but a blank back?

  • I've also heard that there was a Maravich Kedcard, but I can't find any proof. Anyone out there ever hear of it? Would like to see a scan.

  • jr, Thanks for the great info and pics. I knew there were other players, but I didn't know who or how many. Never saw any of the larger ones. Pretty neat. They certainly are rare around here, never saw any but the one Bench. Thanks again for the info.

Never heard of a Pistol Pete KedKard. I bought a stack of about 15 cards of both variations for $5 at a show last winter, and it included only the players I mentioned. They were pretty beat up, but there were a few nice examples. The dealer had several stacks that he said had sat in his display case for years, which is why I said they're not too popular. But if you're into oddball stuff, almost anything is cool.

The small ones seem to be much more common than the larger, which are hard to get without creases or tears because each card took up so much of the shoebox lid.
