ebay vs tristar

The SF Tristar show is on labor day weekend. I'm debating on whether or not i should set up a table. I'm not a seller and never had set up at a show...definitely not as big as Tristar. But, i recently was handed down (not really given for free, i had to pay a small price) a ton of modern junk. A lot of them are the usual game used stuff. I am not sure whether i should try to sell these guys on ebay individually (or as lots) or sell them at a show and see what i can get. I've done some research on ebay and most of the modern junk i have would sell at likely 50 to 75 percent off book value. At shows, i usually see these cards go for 25 to 50 percent off (and if it's late on Sunday, sometimes 75% off). I also have some high priced graded post war cards i would want to sell. But, i would mainly do this to get rid of the modern crap cluttering my closet.

So, my questions are:

1.) Is it better to sell these cards on ebay or would i make a bigger profit at a show like tristar?
2.) If i sell on ebay, would it be better to sell these cards individually (the prices of these game used cards range from 10 to 25 dollars) or package them in lots?

  • 1.) eBay. Once you factor in the price of transportion (if you don't live in SF) and the cost of the table you may come out way behind.
2.) Small lots. Sell the big names (Ryan, Ripken, Mays, etc.) in singles and the rest in small lots.

I would say eBay also. I have set up tables at shows before and it never seems like you come out that far ahead after you factor in the cost, time, and aggravation.
