Italian copper and the Napster to boot!

This is a serious upgrade for me and a relatively tough coin to find in this condition. You can find better but the prices jump by at least a factor of ten...

1811 1 Soldo, Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy

Copper, 26.5mm

edited for a "Doh...", it definitely is 1811, I was looking at the 1808 flip when I was writing it up... image

Very cool old copper, Vern image
Is that a die crack running through the "S" on the reverse?

I like die cracks too! image

Yeah, at first I thought I'd let some of my rapidly migrating hair get into the picture but a check of the coin shows the crack as well as a minor one to its left and a hint of one in the G of REGNO which could be related to the first.

    Great specimen! image

I bet that sucker is almost jet black in hand, isn't it? I have an 1812, about a grade lower than yours, and it has to be the darkest chunk of copper I own! Most of the ones I've seen from this type are like that.. any clues why? or am I off here?
