Why do you collect what you collect?

Specifically your PSA graded cards?

For me, my obssession with black bordered cards is (relatively) well known, which made it easy to choose the 1971 baseball set (year of my birth and also the home of one of the greatest actions cards of all time-#5 Mr. Munson). Football of 1985 is an absolutely fantastic set, beautiful black borders, tons of HoFers, and some nice memories with my best friend.

Collecting Wade Boggs was a no-brainer, as he was my favorite as a youth.

Spreading out into now the 1964 topps giants set because I wanted a small, (relatively) inexpensive set of the 60s.

These collections will be with me for as long as I can see...I have no intention of ever selling them.

Would love to hear how you got your start, why you collect the way you do, and do you do it for investment purposes or entertainment (or both)?

I just started collecting PSA graded 67s BB over that last 4-6 months. I would go to card shows about once a month, the have two huge "flea market" type buildings in the Detroit or closeby area that have shows once or twice a month with about 200+ dealers. 90% of the dealers were selling new stuff, game used and autographed cards. I did not collect anything specific at that time and would buy a few packs of something new to take a look. I had moved in 2001 and it was now farther to go to these shows so I only went once every few months. I finally got tired of travelling to these shows and coming back with just a few packs, felt like a waste of gas. So I started investigating these boards and decided to concentrate on one thing (for now) and instead of having to go to shows I can find most of what I need on-line. I still like to go to these shows once in awhile, but they really never have 67s graded though.

I got into golf cards at a show in Kansas City years ago after watching Mr Mint turn down buying some from a collector. I made my first purchase of golf cards from the 30's at that show and have been hooked ever since.

It probably does not hurt that I am an avid golfer as well.

I was all over the joint in terms of collecting for years. I would start a set, stop a set, sell some cards, and then buy others - which was fun in itself. I am somewhat more focused now, as I am over halfway done on the 1967 Topps Baseball set in PSA 7-8 (birth year), and looking to complete a HOF Complete Player set - which is a challenge based on the reqs.

If I am going to buy on ebay - I prefer graded.

Personally, I think collecting a large graded set is expensive - I understand the registry attracts collectors - but I'm not interested - thus raw sets are fine. I'm still working on a 66T set.

    I do collect a small graded set - 63F.

I try to collect things that I never knew existed. I was always lucky in the early 70's when kids would bring me in Acme bags filled to the top with 50's-60's Topps when they heard that I was still collecting baseball cards, so I've always had plenty of regular cards. Over the years I learned of Topps Test issues like Tattoos from 71, 4 in 1's, Punchouts, AllStar Stickers etc. and set out to see if I could find some. I have absolutely no method or direction in collecting cards. Its more like an accumulation of stuff. Everytime I add a card to my collection is like going to Connie Mack Stadium for the first time and watching Johnny Briggs and Tony Gonzalez...
