1984 Fleer Update Scans

Got my 84 fleer update from bbcexchange today (very well packed I might add), and have scanned in both the clemens and puckett.

I am guessing 8 on both...any chance of a 9 on either?

By the way, the box is in mint condition...very surprising since every single one of these sets I've seen on ebay the box has had obvious mishandlings which (to me at least) bodes even better for the grades on the cards.
(I am posting links to save those on dialup connections)

Clemens

Puckett

and for old times' sake:

Doc!

Hard to tell surface on a scan, but the Clemens is inline for a 9 on centering and the only flaw I can see is the "shotgun shot" on the blue above the "e" in Roger.

Puckett looks like a solid 8 to me.

How's the centering on the back? I've found that the centering on the backs of the 84 Fleer Updates are even worse than the fronts. I've seen many 9's that would have been 10's except the backs were so out of whack.
  • The Clemens does seem stronger than the puckett. Tough to REALLY see the edges without a black background though. Again, centering is the weak link.

    Ax,

Did you see this stunner on ebay a couple weeks ago?

    Beautiful card.

Wow thanks for the link...those 9.5s really seem to grab a premium over a PSA9...but to me, the half grade seems really gimmicky.

That's a beautiful card...have to wonder what chance it would have at a 10 slab.

Yeah, but PSA is generally lenient on the centering when it comes to the 84 Fleers. I had a post about this a few months back. I think these two are probably easy 9's. The backs are really nice.

Does anyone know how to take a scan like mine, and add a black background? I haven't played around with photo shop at all, and would like to see how these look on a black background as someone suggested.

Thanks for the input! I am going to send them in on the $12/card 5 day turnaround.

axtell, scan it with the lid up to get a black background.. and black would probably look better than blue, since part of the card is blue..

That Clemens is one of my favorite modern cards...gotta get one for myself one day.

It looks sweet - but the L/R centering seems like it would keep you in 8 territory. Hope I'm wrong...

I am expecting an 8...but a 9 would be a great, great surprise, seeing as I paid $350 for this set.

I've wrapped these up and sending them in tomorrow to be submitted, should be the end of next week to know the results.

Well, I'm not sure how much good this will do since mine are already slabbed, but here's mine.
