I know the photo isn't impressive and I haven't directed any questions about the coin to the seller (I don't know a tactful way of saying is it cleaned?) but is this worth a bid?

He only claims it is GOOD CONDITION, I would expect it is undergraded by the photo Just ask him outright if it has been dipped, cleaned, or has hairlines. Get a better photo. He says to ASK,ASK, ASK. So I would.

F=35, VF=65. XF=100, UNC=$185 Matte proof =$185

Well....

1. Picture is awful.
2. Seller has 21 negative feedback.
3. May have been using a shill bidder at one time (tedboy18)
4. Coin definitely appears cleaned.
5. No return policy

How much below melt can you bid?

As bad as that photo is, I can see telltale signs of cleaning on the obverse. It's probably not worth the bother.

Bad photo, but good enough to show that it has been cleaned and that it has rub. Avoid, unless you're just collecting the date.

Unfortunately on eBay, the seller's phrase, "I don't know anything about coins" has practically come to automatically mean "I'm trying to dupe you".

That might not be a fair statement in all cases, but it happens enough to make me think twice whenever I see it.

I know what you mean, I have never bought anything from a seller that "doesn't know anything about coins". There are still enough reasonably priced coins out there from dealers who know something. In fact, the best deals I have ever had were from other forum members
