One of my best friends, I was in his wedding, is a huge KC Royals fan - I forwarded this post of yours to him so as to hopefully brighten up a bit for him what is of course a dreary season for a Royals fan.

My KC Royals fan friend believes that George Brett was a better third baseman than Mike Schmidt. We have had this debate for years - to me it shouldn't be a debate because Schmidt was BETTER period.

Did Schmidt even have a lifetime avg. of over .270 ?

Brett was the first player in history to accumulate 3,000 hits, 300 home runs, 600 doubles, 100 triples, 1,500 RBI and 200 stolen bases

As a Mets fan i saw wayyy too much of Schmidt , but i personally always liked Bretts all around game better. Just my opinion

    Let the debatting begin lol

Plus the first and only player to have three batting titles in three decades.

    Brett's Statistics

    Schmidt's Statistics

If I could have either in their prime, Brett in a heartbeat.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

That debate could go on forever, so I will refrain. Besides, my opinion would be somewhat skewedimage

I was at the first game in the series. Our section was crazy!.....I haven't seen Buddy Bell in awhile...he fills out that uniform rather nicely.

Gentlemen, we are STARVED for quality baseball in this town....and while not a world series win, this is a nice step for our once proud franchise. I still mourn the day that Mr. Kauffman died............

Brooms are being allowed in Kauffman Stadium tonite, just on the chance that a sweep happens.

Yea - I'll refraim further also with the Schmidt - Brett comparison - LOL - only for the personal reason of me and my friend have already debated it to death. Brett was one helluva ballplayer but only with batting average will I ever concede that he was better than Schmidt. Schmidt's power can't be ignored and Schmidt's fielding was spectacular. Brett was an excellent fielder also but Schmidt was incredible - I've only seen a few 3rd basemen such as Brooks Robinson and Nettles who were better fielders that could also hit a little bit.

My friend will always be a KC fan but losing Beltran really ticked him off. Small market teams just get killed out there today without a salary cap.

Schmidt did have the edge in the field . He was one of the best i ever seen on charging on a bunt play and snagging it barehanded and then throwing out the runner . I just give the edge to Brett for being the better all around hitter. Schmidt seemed to strikeout too much

Really no sense debating this one because both were great ball players

But Schmidt never cheated with pine tar!

And Schmidt never came running out of the dugout like his pants were on fire either!

Just kidding...both were great, great players...a pair of players who dominated for long periods of time from nearly the exact time frames...they remind me of the bird and magic rivlary...great players from nearly identical times in the league.

We don't seem to have that anymore.

LOL - I totally remember that game! Brett charging out of the dugout ----he says to this day, that the incident made him the most angry he's ever been!

That's one of the greatest images EVER I remember...Brett looked like his head was going to explode! Just shows how much passion the guy had for the game.
