German Jeton

I believe that this is a counter from Germany. It is brass, very thin, and not perfectly round-but is about 18mm in diameter. There is a legend above the ship that reads "PLVS VLTRA"...there are three letters W.M.A beneath the ship. The other side shows the sun, stars, and moon...around the outside rim it says "WOLEG: MAGNUS. ANERT. RE.PP

Does anyone have any idea on this one as far as a date?

I'm pretty sure this is listed in a book I've got on Nuremburg jetons. I'll take a look tonight at home. I wish I owned Mitchner!

  • from what I was told, these small brass jettons were made mid to late 1700's

    It is from Nuremburg Germany.

Struck under guild master Wolfgang Magnus Anert. Became master in 1778 and died before 1816 (they know his widow died in 1816, but they don't know exactly when he did), so this was struck sometime between those dates.
