Found a perfect 64 Kennedy for the whizzing experiment

We talked about whizzing the other day and someone mentioned it would be a good idea to take an original coin and whiz it to show what whizzing looked like. I agreed it was a good idea and plucked this perfect specimen out of my dealer's junk silver box today:

  • Perfect specimen?

I've seen some badly cleaned coins and I'm curious to see the before and after effects. This should be interesting. Are you going to try and remove ALL of the toning?

I stopped at Sears today and didn't find anything acceptable. I'll check out Lowe's and the gun shops tomorrow.
  • Looks like a perfect crash dummy to me Russ. You should see the AT experiment I have working with a couple of kennedys & frankies. They are sleeping in the garage with all kinds of poorple, urange & red stuff in a CD box. Goal is not burn the house down in the process. image

    Erik-

Try this . . . whiz half the coin and leave the other half intact. That way you will have a great learning tool. Just a thought.

I think it was common to use jewelry polish. The whizzed coin I sold had a pinkish colored paste in her ear. You know those dremel tools that are the cloth discs? I think something like that was used on the coin I had. The coin was gorgeous, looked like a proof, all nice and frosty. Then under a good light with a little magnification there were a bazillion little tiny scratches.

In the interest of educationing the masses this sacrifice should be made. Then post some big stinkin' close-ups so we can squirm.

    Nope - it's a circulation strike, not a proof.
