Question - 1952 Topps Red or Black back?

Is either back considered more valuable or does the SMR refer to both? I ask because I was looking through the pop reports to see if I have any low pop cards, and I see that both #41 Wellman and #46 Goldsberry are about a 7:1 ratio red to black - does that mean black is worth more?

Thanks,
Brian

  • My guess is that only recently did PSA start labeling black back cards. I would imagine that most black backs are still labeled in a normal manner. I had to send in my 70 or so black-backs so they could be reholdered, so I could use them in the registry. I bet that as the months go by the numbers will become more realistic.

"I saw Jacques Cousteau at the grocery store in L.A. once & I watched to see what he would buy, but he only got corn chips & some shoelaces & I don't know what I expected, but I would've settled for a can of chunk light tuna even. "

  • PSA originally graded both the red and black backs and then they stopped.

As of March of this year, they have resumed grading the black backs. You can submit your black back cards to PSA and they will give it a black back distinction. Earlier this year, they were charging $3 for the crossover - I don't know how much they are charging now.

I collect PSA 7 1952 Topps - if anyone has any, please let me know.
