PVC and Red-Green Color Blindness
This may seem a little strange, but I've got question about PVC and color blindness. Supposedly one out of every six males suffers from some degree of red-green color blindness (vs. total color blindness or blue-yellow color blindness). It's hereditary. I'm red-green color blind and have also been wearing glasses for 40+ years. My daughter still gets nervous as I approach traffic lights. I see red, yellow, and green just fine. The problem happens when greens (or reds) are near similar toned grey colors. I'm the guy that occassionally goes to work with one black sock and one dark green one.
I picked up some Morgans this weekend out of a junk box... $10 each. I bought six with nice die cracks. Got home and looked under the microscope with more light and more time. Lots of PVC that I didn't notice in the antique shop. I don't clean coins, and I don't even like soaking them in acetone. I had to let five of them sit in acetone for two days. Most came off. Some didn't. Some PVC ate into the coin surface.
Not a major loss for $60. Still like the cracks. A year ago, I would have walked out with 50 coins (and more PVC). I'm getting better and focusing more on quality. It's just hard for me to pass up die breaks for $10.
Does anyone else have a hard time seeing PVC due to color blindness? Am I alone out here?
