What is your "dream coin?"

For me it would have to be either the 1820 £5 or the Henry III Gold Penny.

Una and the Lion, of course!

Second place would be a 1905 halfcrown in MS.

I'm glad someone else other than me was going to put that! image

Although an Edward III Florin is not to be missed either.

Other than those two dream coins and perhaps a Queen Mary Fine Sovereign i can't think of much else i would like to own.

The only other dream coin i wanted to own i've now got (my friend Athelstan!) , so there's hope for me yet! image

Well one day i could realistically get the Queen Mary sovereign as these currently retail for about £7000 so although they are very, very pricey indeed it's still attainable if i were to continue buying decent coins bit by bit and then sell them all off in the next ten or so years and use the funds to buy the Mary. Either way it's not quite the same level as the Eddy Florin and Henry Gold Penny which would set you back a nice house or two to buy. And thus i'll never own either of those, unless i win the lottery, but since i don't play it i doubt that somehow!

Here's a picture of a Queen Mary Fine Sovereign as sold by the late Colin Cooke in 2004 for £7950.

  • I would have said Una and the Lion or a Gothic Crown, but very recently have seen a 1826 GeorgeIV Proof 5 pounds that simply took my breath away.
