Are there any desirable 1883 CC Morgan VAMS - and is this one of them? Update - is it a VAM 5A? (li

Hi,
I picked up this Morgan recently. It has several die cracks on both sides, clash marks, and possibly a bit of minor doubling on the 18 (see closeup pics, not sure if it is actual doubling or machine doubling). I did a search and found a few mentions of a VAM 4 which supposedly has similar characteristics but also with some sort of bar under the 2nd 8 (which this one doesn't have). Just wondering if any of you VAM experts know if this is a recognized variety. Thanks for looking.

Well, I can tell you for a fact it's not a VAM 3 or 4. This coin has a heavy clash. If you look inside the left side of the wreath on the reverse, you can see the bridge of Liberty's nose.

Yeah, it has heavy clash marks visible on both sides of the coin.

I am still trying to make sense out of all this VAM stuff. You think mine might be a VAM 5A? Here is a link to a picture of a VAM 5A VAM 5A Link
  • could possibly be but you would have to be able to take a closeup of the clash by neck. your coin has a lot of clashing to it so if Iwere you I would take a real close look at it
