1993 was the first year the new Close AM dies were to be used for business strikes.
The Proofs maintained the Wide.
1992-D Cents with a "Close" AM are the rare ones. The 1993 dies were shipped to Denver for the new year, and someone jumped the gun and used one or more early.
I believe this to be correct.
Hope this helps.

You sound like you're not too sure BuffIT. I appreciate your quick and concise responce and I too thought the 1993-S Proof was a Wide AM, but in looking at the only one I have, it is very clearly a Close AM. So, can I please get some clarification on this?

But thanks Joeyuk, I'll take your word that mine is a normal variety, since I know you to be very knowledgable about Lincolns and are, unlike me, "a man with some cents".

Sorry Murphy I should have mentioned they are in a pull down menu labeled permanent auction archives. I just got back from there and found images are not available unless your registered with them.
All 1993 proof cents should have the close AM. All 1992 cents should have the wide AM, then in 1993 they changed to the close AM for BOTH the proof and business strike coins. The proof changed back to the wide AM in 1994.

You can enlarge the pics and see the close AM is normal. Joe
John Wexler found that since 1994 the Mint has been using two different dies for proof and circulation cent coinage.
Your 1993-S is very normal.
I aplologize for the miscue.

I tried finding a photo at Heritage, but couldn't find one. eBay had lots of small photos, but nothing conclusive.
Close AM?
Wide AM?
