It will probably be permanent though it wouldn't be surprising if they start making the old style in addition.

I'm kind of wondering if this is going to end up like the Special Mint Sets of the 1960's. For about three years there you don't know if you have apples or oranges. There are SMS coins in both proof and mint registery sets. At least maybe we'll just have to wonder if the coin is a silver/clad proof, or a mint set/business strike. And added to that how does it effect grading if the coin is made by a special process? And are mint set coins really circulated coins verses the ones that are put into rolls or bags at the mint?
IMO think they are really going to muddy the waters.
And yes I'll try to get a few extra sets just to see what happens. Usually buy five sets might go for ten this year. Worse thing that can probably happen is I sell them on eBay.

From the memo I saw, it will be used for all future mint sets. I guess it will depend upon the popularity with the people ordering them. If this years orders are in the toilet, I imagine we'll have a rarity and the mint might think this was a mistake.

On the otherhand, if the orders skyrocket, they are here to stay and there will be nothing special about the 2005 satin finish sets except that they started the trend
