box bust...87 fleer basketball

maybe we need a "box bust" forum...i really enjoy reading the highlights of the past few 75t, 78t and heritage busts.
i've just opened an 87 fleer wax box from BBCExchange. centering is what may keep some of these from a 10. otherwise, sweet corners, surface and edges. if anyone is looking for some 9's let me know and i'll check what i have when sending in my submission.
box yielded 2 jordans and 1 magic. otherwise, distribution on the stars was on the average of 3 (expected)
the stickers seem to be more difficult to get in mint condition than the actual set cards.
wish me luck.

Very good overall - as you said centering is an issue. Got any scans - I would like to see what the Jordans look like?
thanx for sharing

<< <i>soft, this is the 87 fleer. not the 86...i'd love to have an 86. there's one up now ending tonite...up to $6k now. >>
whoops, basketball not my collecting fortay. Do you have a link to that 86' box? Just so I can watch it I am sitting here at the computer doing some work that needs to get done so I can enjoy Sunday/Monday. I like to peek at big auctions like that in between working ...

If you have any of the 4 cards I need (and they wouldn't be good enough for submitting) and you'd be willing to sell raw, I'd be happy to buy them.
I need:
#25-Brad Daugherty
#26-Walter Davis
#84-Sam Perkins
#130-James Worthy

The 1987 boxes go for around a G note - not bad, but unless the Jordans pan out, it is tough to make your money back. The 1988's, which go for around $400-$450 seem like a better buy, as there are a few RC's in that set which are desirable in high grade.
For me personally, this has been a good thing as I've picked up several sets from each year, along with a nice 86-87 set, at what I hope prove to have been bargain prices.
Nothing like the thrill of pack busting, though, especially at a reasonable price. I remember paying $45 a pack (ouch!) for a handful of 87-88s, hoping for jordan.

i've had several pm's from board members regarding this bust and i will be responding to all and also scanning for those that have asked.

Don't get me wrong...I love the 80s Fleer Basketball....just hope it doesnt bottom out with 800 cases of each year flooding the market.
yankee, you make a good point and there is a chance Fleer has a ton of the stuff locked away somewhere and is waiting to release it, but honestly I think that would have happened by now. I know for a fact pretty much everything left over from 86 was destroyed. Still, it will be interesting to see what happens when they go under, but I suspect their brand name is too powerful for somebody not to pick it up. The last time a major player in the card market went down was Bowman in the 50's, so I don't think anyone will be able to predict exactly what will happen. It will be interesting to see what happens to the older Fleer stuff, but I can't see it plummeting- it's just too important to the building of the market in the late 80s early 90s.

they have SUSPENDED operation.... they have not come out and said they quit or said they wont sell the name to someone who wants to make cards...they have liscenses and I beleive can sell them...though i may be wrong on that...i dont think we have seen the end just yet....
as far as that 86 fleer box going for high dollar...who in there right mind would pay that when u got a less than 5% chance of it being decently centered........late 80's fleer basketball = BEAUTIFUL DESIGN, GREAT PLAYERS, HORRIBLE CENTERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to buy 4 rack boxes and 5 wax boxes of 89 Fleer to get a decent set of 168 cards....and even then i had to go outside of that to find a couple others!!!!! I got one and I gave one to milbroco for helping with the 84 topps football commons.
