Could it be the Ike Dollar?

I have seen them in circulation more than the Sac dollar and I can't imagine Morgan or Peace dollars ever circulated very much.

Anything predating the Morgan was probably too rich for most people.

I would say the seated dollar in the first decade of its use. After that, it was worth too much to circulate.

Of course, if you go by sheer numbers, it would have to be a recent coin.

According to an article by Al Doyle in the latest Coin Values (came with June 6 Coin World), top of p. 21, it's the Mexcian 8 real coin (legal tender until 1857).

I read that the gold dollar circulated quite extensively in several sources. Makes sense when you think about it. The 8 reals circulated more and had legal tender status until 1857 but wasn't really a US coin.

I would never have thought of the 8 real piece. But nothing after the seated dollars of the 1840's really circulated all that much.
I would still have said Morgans just because of the huge quantity of them minted. Even a fraction of those circulating is a lot of $$.
