Help Cracking out some PCGS slabs

I want to take some modern proof cents out of their PCGS holders so they can join their friends in my Dansco Album. What is the safest way (for me and the coins) to do this? Keep in mind I live in an apartment and don't have a lot of work space.... or tools, but I can purchase the needed tools.....

A small hand held jig saw will do the trick. Also, bolt cutters make quick work.

Personally, I'd leave them in their slabs and buy some cheap raw pieces since these are modern proofs. But hey, that's just me.

Hmm.. Hammer, got it, I need to go get some slabs out from under my truck tire.... brb....

I was going to do that, or maybe sell these and get doubles with the $, but prices are so depressed on modern slabbed stuff right now that it doesn't seem worth it.

Strike the edge with a hammer. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!

The easiest I found is with a small bench vise.

Compressing the two edges (when looking down at the vice you will see the obverse or reverse of the coin) will usually pop the seal.

No matter what method you use - WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. Your eyesight is far more valuable than any coin.

I use a pair of end cutters. One quick nip at the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position near the rubber insert does the trick. The plastic usually fractures cleanly all the way across the slab, allowing the insert to be removed easily. Takes about 5 seconds and I have never damaged a coin. I havealso witnessed a major dealer cracking out coins using this method.

A pair of regular pliers works fine. Hold the slab in one hand and go around the edges with the pliers and break off ,by prying up, around the slab. Works easly and you can control the amount of breakage easily. I have broken dozens of slabs this way and had no problems.
