How did this one get an MS66 grade?

sumduncesumdunce Posts: 1,247 ✭✭✭✭
I was just surfing the Teletrade auctions and found this.

If I were to submit this coin I would get it back MS64 at best.

    Yep. At best.

Some folks just get lucky and catch the grading services on an off-day, I guess.

64 looks about right to me, and even that's because the obverse is often 60-70% of the grade.

I am just amazed that all the great coin graders hang out on this board when the should be working for the grading companies.

Not my coin. I do not know who owns the coin.

I am just ticked off that the lucky grade never seems to fall my way.

Maybe I should buy this coin and send it in for grade review. The only problem is that it is not worth enough just to make a point.

I am not a great grader. Just look at any of my submissions to PCGS and you will see consistent inconsistency.

I can however count the major marks on the back of the coin (deep impacts at that) and I can also see the chatter around the ear on the obverse.

Based upon all the Kennedies I have observed on a lucky day this coin would get MS64. It looks to me to be a solid MS63 (due to the major marks on the back).

There have been many threads re: guess the grade. Bottom line is, no one is very good at grading pictures.

Heh, and many get even better with a blown up scan about 20x the actual coin. Then the marks can really be counted. LMAO
