Could these Morgan colors be real ? Calling Purple

I can't describe these colors so here is a pic. Reverse is white with rim toning. How could this tone like this? Disclaimer- this is not my coin.

    I wouldn't touch it.

I've never seen any silver at any antique auction or sale or store have that coloring EVER.

  • I started to reply to this question of how did this happen...then I began to think of the sulfer and the blue color when it is ignited...but this coin could have been in contact with something which contained a great deal of sulfer and somehow kept in a very warm place....I like it though.

A sorry attempt at duplicating bag toning.

If the colors are accurate on my monitor then it is nasty and AT.

A little history, this coin was shown to me by a young lady that works for me. She said her parents got this coin at a flea market and liked the 'strange' colors. She said they paid $20 for it. I think this is brutal, but was more curious if a silver coin could tone this shade of purple. I like the obverse rim, but those purple's and greens are tough.

  • I saw a franklin once in a coin shop the whole obverse was a dark purple that it was almost black...but it was a deep purple...now I said to myself who would want that ugly coin...
  • Maybe it is from a bank hist form the early 1900's and it was buried in the ground somwhere in the desert in a bank bag!!!

Those colors are real alright, real AT!

I've seen a board member (doesn't post much anymore) sell an AT Franklin at FUN'05 to a couple of kids and the dad.
I don't think dad knew better and the kids like the color.
If I recall, it was ~$50.

Said dealer did NOT tell them anything about the AT being non-desirable to most.

Laura would classify this particular dealer as a wannabe btw.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
