I received my latest results in only 3 days 1st PSA 10 Pete Rose

The results of my most recent submission were posted in only 3 days. Have a look. As suggested by my screen name I am a Ted Simmons fan which explains all of the Simmons cards. I submitted them for my personal collection since most people don't send in his cards, So I am a little disappointed with the 8's, but they still look nice in the PSA holders. I also threw in some other cards I had laying around including a Guidry rookie and 1986 Pete Rose # 1 & 1986 Cal Ripken along with 1977 OPC cards of Hernandez & Templeton. Boy was I shocked to see how fast the grades were posted and also when I checked the POP report that I have the first PSA 10 1986 Pete Rose # 1 graded to date. Enjoy & please share your results. I would have liked to have gotten a PSA 10 on more, but hey for $5/per card. I felt these cards in any grade look good holdered.

Can you give us a scan of the Rose card? Congratulations! First 10 is really cool - check over at the registry - there may be someone who will do some serious trading for that one?

  • When I get the cards in hand, I'll do my best to post pics. I hate to part with a PSA 10 of Pete Rose, but for the right deal / price I may do so. I hope everyone enjoys reading about others results. I know that is one reason I joined and check the boards. I'll keep everyone posted and will display pics as soon as I figure it out correctly (I have received advice from other members on how to do so as my last attempt I was only able to display the flips).

  • Check the pop report. I believe the '86 Topps Rose is a 1 of 1. I sold a solid 9 for roughly $40.
  • Good Job Drew.
Nice to see some Van Slyke cards in there.
Whats the story with the Musial is that an insert card, auto...?

Congrats on the Rose 10 - don't be surprised if you get $200 or more for it on eBay. Once upon a time, it could have gone as high as $500 ... those Rose collectors are nuts image.

The Musial card was an insert. They also inserted Mantle and Yaz. The 4th insert had all 3 on the card. I do believe that there were signed versions as well.

While I hope TedSimmonsFan responds, I thought I'd add my $.02.

It's not just hockey guys that are ignorant of Simba. He was one of the great hitting catchers of the last few decades. He starred for the Cardinals and Brewers in the seventies and eighties and was a major part of the Harvey's Wallbangers Brewers team that won the AL in 1982. Not a great defensive player, but a guy that deserves more credit than he gets. He was the Pirates GM a few years ago until he had a heart attack (or was it a stroke) at a relatively young age. I think he's a scout or something now.

He made the All-Star team a fantastic eight times from 1972 to 1983. His HOF chances were hurt significantly by his inability to remain behind the plate. If he could have put up the same numbers while playing catcher his whole career he'd be lined up next to Fisk and Carter in Cooperstown.
  • Well said ajw. Simmons was an awesome offensive catcher and all star.
I was a sad day for me back when he was sent off to the Brewers. I had a very difficult time accepting Darrell Porter being the catcher on the Cardinals 1982 Wold series team against Simmons and the Brewers.

As far as collecting Simmons, I can't explain it other than the fact that my older brother was a Reds fan and catcher in little league, teener ball, and high school (he is also 9 yrs older) and his favorite player was Johnny Bench. I have always been a cardinals fan and followed suite in having my favorite player at the time being the catcher on the Cardinals. Also, the first player to sign an in person autograph for me. At the Vet in Philly 1978 (1973 topps card).
Remember this was at a time when Brock and Gibson 1975-1980 were winding up there careers and Keith Hernandez was a promising young ball player. Gary Templeton was trolling SS for the cards and the Wizzard was a Padre. Simba - look at his picture on his 1975 Topps card for reference to his nickname (long hair etc... for anyone too lazy to look) Over the years, players have come and gone, and while I collect a number of other cardinals now my first favorite player was Ted Lyle Simmons. I have several autos all obtained in person from the mid 70's - through early 1990's, but until recently I would not look at the cards of him not in a cardinal uniform. The set registry got me hooked so that is why I began submitting the Brewer and Brave Years. I feel he should warrent a little consideration for the Hall of fame, but believe Ken Boyer, Marty Marion & Ron Santo do too. Don't forget Bruce Sutter, who probably has the best shot.
    Best wishes to all.

I believe I will sell the PSA 10 Rose. Ebay will most likely be the way I go. Be on the look out. I sell every now and then which mostly amounts to a trade.

    Thanks for everyone's feedback.

Drew, AJW - thanx for the read on Ted - unless someone posts numbers that puts them in the rarified air of McGwire, Sosa, Bond etc. - it's easy to miss some great players that graced the diamonds in baseball.

I am Hit King, the Pete Rose PSA collector that everyone seems to be referring to. I am interested in the card. Please email me at jckorth@fuse.net so we discuss the potential purchase of this card outside the forum.

Forum Members: I am interested in all rare Pete Rose cards in PSA 8 or better with no qualifiers. On the more common Pete Rose cards, they must be PSA 9 or better with no qualifiers. Feel free to email me with a description of the card and your asking price.

    Thanks...Jeff
