Linkerdoodle

Looks kinda cool! Think I'll have to get one when they are available for sale.

There's the "front", and there's the "obverse". Where's the "back"?image

IMO this will be a very popular issue with a low mintage. I don't think that any marine commem has been done by the mint to date. I do know that there are a bunch of marines that are not on active duty that will want this coin in a big way. Can't wait till they issue these 'cause I'm gonna group up on 'em.

Nice looking commem. The news last evening had a quick piece showing Ms. Fore pushing the button to the press that struck the first PROOF. Looked like it struck the coin 3 times and popped it out.

I like it, hope to add one of each (MS and PROOF) to my set.

Here's the coin, from the Mint's website:

I don't like how the men on the obverse are so small and pushed down into a corner. Also, the logo on the reverse is too small and a bit off-center. I hacked together the following mods; what do you think?

I live in the town where the Marine 1st Division is stationed and no one here is talking about the coin or showing interest. Afraid this one might turn out like the West Point Dollar a few years ago. I have offered PCGS MS69s and no one has shown much interest.

No need to apologize -- I didn't put forth a whole lot of exposition about the changes I made.

The MM in the mint's design seems to be just floating aimlessly in the bottom center of the field. When I made the logo design bigger, it had to go elsewhere. I'm a big fan of putting mintmarks on the obverse, and a readily obvious place presented itself, so there it went.

Thanks for the nice comments, folks!

MUCH nicer coin Bob, lots of extra space on coins always bothers me.

Nice job Flaminio. You should forward it to the Mint and see if they will make new dies. Then we would have Type I and Type II Marine Dollars!!

Also, what's up with a 230th Anniversary? That's an odd one. Almost as silly as Korean War Commem for the 38th anniversary of the end of the war (yeah, 38th parallel, but still kinda dumb).

So does it come out this memorial day weekend or is it still in July. I am thinking about getting one for my step-father since he
    used to be a marine
