1944 D/S type 3 lincoln cent?

First forgive my crappy photo's (this will change when my ship comes in!)

I have a fairly nice microscope and a dual whip fiberoptics light source.
I've turned this coin around and around tipped it and viewed it from many angles and with the light coming in at it from many angles...
my contention is that this might very well be a "type 3" D/S 1944 cent.
My first photo is slightly differently lit and placed than the second....


If i turn it enough and make it flash in the light.....I see parts of what looks like a "ghost image of an "S" punched into it north and east.


most of it has been eradicated, much like the s on the famed 1980 D&S ....also this already has a rpm designation by Mr. Wiles as
rpm #3







what does anyone else think?

Interesting piece. Coins like that are hard to capture in a pic. I would send that one to Chuck and Bob to look at. Let us know. You may have a big coin there. That would be a D/D/S

interesting...that's RPM#3 and you would think they had been studied ad-nauseum considering they are a well know, long time published RPM for the series. I wish you the best in hopes your coin turns out to be what you believe it may be. I'd be glad to take a look at it for you if you like.

I'd get it attributed................It's there. I can see the whole top of the S.

Looks to me like the whole area above the D was re-ground to eliminate the underlying S.

I agree with C.D. on this one ...you'd think it was looked at to the point of ridiculous.

mines either a very early die state ...or its a fluke!

I hope its not a fluke (flukes aren't worth much)..........i can see it now.......
