1921-P VAM 8 Morgan - question about doubling

Picked up a 1921-P VAM 8 recently. It has the dot under the eagle's right wing. Many of the letters and stars show some kind of doubling. Not really doubling... more like extra silver squeezed out. Some flows several millimeters away from the letter. What causes this? You can see it on the letter R and a star, but several other letters are similar.
