Help with pictures, please....

I know this topic has been gone over many times on this forum. But I'm too lazy to go back and look at old threads, so can someone please help me?

What is photoshop? Software? I've seen some awesome coin pictures here and don't know how it's done.

Until now, I've just scanned coins and ran them thru Microsoft Picture It! After scaling them down to <50 kb, the size is just a fraction of what I'm seeing here. Rather than reinvent the wheel, can somone PLEEEEZE tell me what to purchase and how to use it?

If it helps, my camera is an 8 megapixel fixed lens.

Photoshop is software.

Make sure that you save your images in JPG format with some mild compression. That will allow bigger pics within the 50k limit.

Well, Photoshop lives here. There is a version for professionals and a light version for non-professionals. many of us use it to do corrections on the images. Those techniques take some time to learn. But usually the best pics come from good cameras. I recommend a good digital camera with good optics (most regular camera makers make digicams with good optics) and macro mode with optical zoom.
