Franklin D. Roosevelt signature..........

I found a Certificate of Appreciation in my Grandfathers papers when I was helping clean out his apartment. It has a gold stamp on it and is signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Anyone out there ever seen this type of certificate? Any idea on it's value?

Magicbilly would probably know spot on about this question. If you post a scan of it people could take stabs on it. likely it's an autopen, but if not that's one great score.

After looking at www.historyforsale.com you're probably 1 to 3k richer depending on if the signature is real or not..

They had autopens way back then?

    Hiya Knuckles,

yes, that insidious machine was around back then, but Eisenhower is considered to be the first President to have employed one. I have shown its use in Hollywood as early as 1945 but most are unaware of this apparenlty. Presidents are like sports - not my strong suit - but I can sure give an opinion if a scan is posted. I am sure I have a few exemplars to look at. While it may not be an Autopen, Roosevelt was certainly using secretaries from the 1920's on, and starting in the 1930's - preprints.

  • Wondering if this is a Land Grant. If so it may actually be signed by Roosevelt OR "Secretary" signed. If you could psot a scan we may be able to help more.
