My 4 year old asked to look at some coins today while I was at work...

I brought home some extra Mexican Peso coins that I had from a recent trip and gave them to my 4 year old daughter. As I was leaving for work this morning, she actually asked if she could look at them with my loupe while I was gone (typically we look at coins together). Like a fool I started saying things like, make sure you don't touch the lens, don't drop it or get it scratched, etc., etc. Then I realized that I should be happy that she is interested in looking at the coins, even when I am not around. Maybe I have created a budding collector.

PS. the coins are pretty neat. The 10 peso(?) and 5 peso (?) coins are bi-metallic and have a really nice design.

It's fun when they get interested. My daughter is almost two, and she looks at coins with me. She's got a cheapie Morgan in a slab and a bunch of 20th century stuff in 2x2's that are *her* collection, and when we do coin time she shuffles through her box alongside me. She imitates very exactly -- pull the coin out, look at both sides, put it back carefully, pull out the next coin. Take the pretty ones to show Momma and babble at her about them, just like Dad does.

I am looking forward to requests like the one your daugher made. Good for her!
