How long ago did you submit?

Late 60's and early to mid 70's non-sports
  • Yep, I did. Sent a day or two over the April limit and still got my cards graded and returned all in good time. Actually sent 2 submissions, one way before that, April 3 or 4th, got them back also.

Submission received May 9. Entered into system May 20. I imagine I'll be waiting awhile.

Wow, a 10 on the 1986 Topps Pete Rose #1 card. I've sent in 86's before and I know the difficulty. That would bring some really nice coin on EBay. I've done well with selling Rose 10's from the 80's and I can almost guarantee that there is several people who are salivating thinking of buying that card. If it was mine, it would go on Ebay right away with all the hoopla possible before a second one gets graded.
  • Hey Steve,
This is Drew The current owner & submitter of the PSA 10 1986 # 1 Rose. I have been contacted by several individuals already inquiring about this card (I haven't responded to any yet because I have been away for the holiday and just got back). Can you give me an idea about potential prices you have received on your 10's The card should arrive tomorrow from PSA & I am looking forward to seeing it. I planned to put it on ebay and start it off @ $9.99 & let the bidding begin, but am wondering if it would be better to sell or trade off of ebay. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Drew

    OFF TOPIC:
Does anyone trade anymore? I am looking to upgrade my Musial cards 5's to 6's, 6's to 7's & 7's to 8's. I have the 1986 Rose and several other high grade star cards, modern and vintage, & odd & OPC cards that I would be willing to part with for upgrades to my Musial's. I'm also willing to trade the lower graded musial and another card for the higher graded one. Example, not an offer. 1960 musial PSA 7 & 1962 musial #317 PSA 7 & 1959 Musial Gets 3000 hit PSA 7 for 1960 PSA 8 musial. Or something like that.

I made a mistake on the submission form, so they had to call and leave a message for me. It took me a few days to get back to them, but not 11 days. Still no results posted.

Does anyone have a clue how many graders they have at PSA?

I guess I'm the unlucky one this time. Normally I get fast service. Cards sent in on 4/29, received according to delivery confirmation on 5/6. Stll not listed as received by PSA.

Well, there is a Cal Ripken PSA 10 that just closed for $202 and I saw a Tom Seaver once close for $175 so if those prices hold true, I would say the Rose 10 would go in the $250-$300 range but it's really hard to tell. Ebay is so unpredictable these days. Sometimes, the right people don't see your auction and it goes for way too little and sometimes all hell breakes loose and it goes for sick money. I almost never use a reserve but I would consider one on a card like that. Being a 1 of 1, you don't want to give it away. Rose collectors are serious buyers and everyone knows the difficulty of 86's so the sky's the limit on that card.

Remember that the clock doesn't start ticking on the guaranteed turnaround, whatever it is for a particular level of service, until PSA logs your submission as received. Thus if they are swamped because a special is very popular, like the $5 deals, it behooves them NOT to log submissions until they feel they can turn them around in the required time.

In other words, the guaranteed turnaround has a big loophole. I'm imagining a corner of the receiving area with a sign over a large pile of packages: "Log these when things loosen up!"
  • phreakydancinphreakydancin Posts: 1,691 ✭✭
jr, I agree the loophole is an easy out for them, but there is no guaranteed turnaround with the $5 registry special.

YEEHAW! I just checked and my results were posted!

I guess the "Other Guy" graded my submission!

I was expecting two, maybe three 10's but not eleven! I'm not sure what happened with the two 8's... the Keegan was supposed to be an upgrade to the 8 I already own, and the Ballesteros was (I thought) the closest thing to a "sure thing" 10 in the submission.

Still, for my very first submission I'm totally thrilled with the results overall!

    congrats on the nice grades

Is anybody else as bad as I am when it comes to checking the status of their submission? I swear that I check to see if my grades have popped just about every time I log onto the internet.

I just mailed my 37 card submission this morning. 34 cards for the ryan basic set, 85 donruss puckett and clemens (were sgc 96's, since cracked) and that Henderson rookie I had posted with the rough cut/nick in the border. Wish me luck, I will keep ya posted!!!!

Ps. I also sent in a 70 ryan to see if they would just grade it even though it was before 72. shhhhh!

    <---raises hand

I'm terrible at that. I check about every 15 minutes on the day my results are due! I usually end up seeing the results about 3 hours before the email comes telling me the grades are available...so I've convinced myself it's worth it.

That was me! PSA got back to me yesterday and the holdup was due to my submitting both cards and pins in the same order. They needed permission to separate the orders and ship back separately. Next time I'll stick to the same items in each order. PSA works better when we follow directions (rather I follow directions). Oh well. they are now listed as received and the countdown is on.

I am really starting to debate whether or not to spend the $12 grading and get my cards back in 5 days vs. the fact that my cards have been at PSA since May 7th . Which means my cards are sitting somewhere in BFE. I love the warm fuzzy they give you over the phone--"your cards are in the grading process". Kind of reminded me of the auto mechanic commercial where he says " I got 3 of my best guys working on it right now", and their they are eating lunch on the hood of the car.

"Never tell a joke that ain't funny more than once!!"

Maybe that is what they want? Make you pay up to get your cards quicker and their profits soar.
