What can you get at the bank?

Just wondering if you can get anything good at the bank.

What should you ask for? Rolls?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Some banks will have bundles of 2$ bills, or "bank wrapped" rolls of New coins ( Bisons, latest st. Quarters)
SOmeone else may correct me, but Bank wrapped are rolls from a third part (Brinks, etc.) where bags from the mint converted into rolls, coins are usually a little more marked than a "Mint wrapped" roll but not always.

Another popular diversion is to get rolls of halves and search for silver coins. Often times it will be just a 40% kennedy, but still fun to find.

Since many people do this, and we are geeting further away from silver coins circulating, it is getting harder to find.

Circulating coinage collection(s).

This is getting much more popular but there are still a lot of great coins available
from nice old coins a couple generations old to rare and sometimes even unlisted
varieties. In trying to complete any of these sets you are likely to run into other
US and world coins and tokens.

If you have any interest in the coins then the best way to start a collection is to
simply buy the blue folders to house the coins. You will learn what's easy and what's
tough pretty quickly.

Most banks around here don't have much as far as Bisons or State Quarter Rolls. So its off to the flea market for my rolls. I gave up asking and I live in Baltimore.

I usually go to bank to get some rolls and look through them, you can find some nice pieces such as silver if you are lucky.

It depends on the bank.It's usually best to go to several in your area.

I went to mine to get a $100 pack of ones and when I asked for one they looked at me like I was crazy and said"We don't have those here".

The best place to get a $100 pack of ones is at Wal mart after 12 midnight.

I like to get rolls of nickels from the local super market. They are always circulated and often somebody rolled their change to buy cigs or diapers or something, so the variety of dates is good. I frequently (probably about twice a month) come across nickels from the 1930s in circulation, and pieces from the 1940s and up seem to be pretty easy to get ahold of when I buy a few circulated rolls.

Most of the tellers will pull out any 90% silver that they see, so you will
need to get rolls to start hunting with.

I know what I can try to get at the bank.

There is this really nice looking lady at the bank......I've been scoping her out now for about 3-4 months. She has Awesome crystal blue eyes. She's not wearing any rings either.....ooooooooooo.

Yet, I'm a bit chicken, I don't want to be smacked in the melon with a bag of coins if I foul up LOL.

Ifyou have a good relationship, they will sell a reasonable number of coin rolls, to you.

I am new to the board and am in the infancy of my collecting, however I work in a bank and have a little advice for you. First off, tellers only pull the coins that are not rolled. They do not take the time to look through rolls. You can still find silver coins in the rolls as well as older coins. My first bit of advice to you is to get to know a one of the employees at the bank. I am not saying invite them over for drinks, just be nice to them. They deal with impatient people all day, the last thing they want is someone who is hard to deal with asking for rolls of kennedys. Let the person know that you would be interested in any older coins that come in.(I wouldn't use the word silver, then they will take them) Check back every once in awhile, leave a phone number. Don't be picky. Tell them you will take whatever they find. Remember you can always cash them in, you are only paying face. If you ask them to find you dimes that are pre 50's, you won't get anywhere. If the teller has several coins and doesn't want to give them all up, don't be pushy. Just say you will take whatever they don't want. I have seen people get mad when a teller offered them part of their silver coins, but not all. This person doesn't have to be a teller. If there is an officer you can talk to, they can be even more helpful. I have a list of names that I call as soon as new coins (quarters, bisons, etc.) come in. I know within minutes of when they come into the bank. This way they get them right away and don't hwave to worry about not getting any. It is something I am willing to do. I am a collector, but i don't keep everything. I am willing to share with my customers. I have pulled new bison nickels out of my personal collection to give to my customers several times. Maby this will work for you, maby not. I am just telling you what works at my bank. I appreciate all the advice I get from members of the board. I am glad to try and help a little.

A good place for nickels is the Nickelcade. Last time I went with my wife and son I ended up with a pocketfull of 40's and 50's even though I didn't even think to start looking until we were almost done. They kept getting annoyed because I wouldn't let them spend any until I looked through them.

It all depends on the people. I went to about 15 different banks (some twice) trying to get boxes of buffalo nickels. The people range from ignorant, to incompetent, to extremely helpful. It's all in WHO you talk to. I went to one branch of a big bank and they said "Sorry we can't order coins, we just get what shows up." Then I go to another branch of the SAME bank and the vault teller gets on the phone and calls downtown and orders them on the spot. I go to another branch and they said gave me the same "We don't order the coins, we just get what shows up," then went to another branch of the same bank and the lady ordered 10 boxes. Go figure.

To be honest, I think a lot of it is laziness. Some vault tellers will pick up the phone and call two or three people at the Central Money Vault and order coins on the spot, while others just say "Sorry, we aren't able to do that" just because they don't want to bother with picking up the phone. I actually asked one lady and she said "Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm [20 sec pause or so while she looked like she was thinking real hard about it].........no." I asked "Can I ask why not?" She said "We just can't do that." Strange, the Citizen's Bank here can't do it but the one down the street can? Go figure.
