My Master Set is complete. The base cards I have I would like to see someone who can use them ... well, use them. Once again a collector driven by nothing but a cards worth opens the ol bomb bay doors

Before this year I hadn't bought a full box of cards since 1993 but then I saw all the threads about these cards and being that they have the look of the older cards I jumped in a bought some. I can say that I am hooked on these new cards but as I said in an earlier post they disappeared quickly were I am from.

Come on Steve
I used to poke holes in the base cards with a pencil and twirl them like a pin wheel. They wound up in the spokes of my bike - never a Mantle, Snider, Clemente, Mays, Williams ever saw the spoke of a bike.

Mike, you have the advantage of age on me since by the time I started collecting in 1970, I don't recall anyone doing the spoke or flipping thing. Let me ask you a question though. What about those extra cards such as league leaders, MVPs or what have you. Did you treat them the same as the base card or not?
What I react against (and explained to softy in a PM), is that many kids nowadays toss aside the base cards and only look for the golden ticket card. If their favorite player is A-Rod (for example), it doesn't mean anything unless it has chrome or something on it. All of us here understand that since we are collectors (even cranky curmudgeons like me) but look at all of those kids at Target feeling through the packs. Why are they doing that?
All great points and I won't argue with you. Heck, I was at the National in Atlanta in 92 and saw kids tossing UD cards on the floor trying to pull HR heroe cards; same thing for 92F cellos - they were looking for the Rookie Sensations and tossing the base cards! It was a shame - and yes, my son picked them up and thew them in his bag.
I was just messin with ya - collecting in the late 50s early 60s was team/player driven - my friends didn't collect sets - it was too hard to find all the cards...those series killed ya! - we had very little use in NYC for a common card from a scrub in KC! Everyone knew that KC was one of the farm teams for the Yanks anyway.LOL
And the modern market is "lottery" driven and has been for years. But, there are, like myself, a lot of guys out there that still do modern sets. I usually put a Topps and Topps Heritage set together from packs along with another set like the Cracker Jacks. Problem is that it has been getting expensive and time consuming.
They keep talking about wanting to get the set collectors back and bring them reasonable priced cards but the truth is no one really wants it. Like you said, those shiny cards with limited numbering has gotten everyone's head turned....for now.
One thing for sure...modern - vintage; we need each other...fer sure.

<< <i>if anybody wants to get rid of any mint, centered team cards, feel free to send them my way!.. i'm contemplating a registry set in PSA 10 just for the team cards.. so far ive got a Yankees & Red Sox PSA 10.. >>
Perry
Serious? Could ya give a scan?
mike
heres the scans.. i bought 'em cheap off ebay.. i thought what the hell, it wont be a MAJOR priority but i figure i'll accumulate a few worthy of 9's or 10's and send 'em in next time they have a $5 special.. i think i set aside a couple already from the boxes i opened, but i forget which teams..
and i bought this one just because it was inexpensive..
<< <i>I remember seeing those when they were up - I was going to pick up the Giles, but glad I didn't bid on it (wouldn't want to bid against you and risk more turds in my mailbox). >>
i'd send you a bubble mailer full of fart..

barf, I'm in South Thomaston, where are you?
I debated & debated whether to start a Heritage set this year, in the end I decided against it so I have but one Heritage card. Anyone who wants to send me Heritage especially Red Sox is welcome to do so and I'll throw in a few bucks besides shipping. PM or Email me for my address.
Dave
Now collecting:
Topps Heritage
1957 Topps BB Ex+-NM
All Yaz Items 7+
Various Red Sox
Did I leave anything out?
I'm in the Machias area. I have to travel about an hour just to get to Wally World where I was buying these cards.
I also debated starting a set of these because I just don't normally buy newer cards but with all that I was reading on here it got me interested in them.

Dan's a good guy...glad to hear you got them in good shape.

I could have shipped these cards out in better time but I am happy that my excess base cards are falling into future master sets.
I still have more to ship!
