I received the same email a couple of days ago. I also received a similar one from Paypal.

I got a couple of these emails last week as well. They look pretty official, none of the typos or spelling mistakes like in most of the spam I get. I would have clicked on the email but it was sent to my other email account that is not linked to ebay and paypal. The other tipoff was that it did not have my ebay user id anywhere in the email. They are getting better though.

Here's what a legitimate "update your records" message from EBay looks like:

Hello <the correct e-mail address for my seller account>

This is a courtesy reminder that the following credit/debit card on file for your eBay account will soon expire:

EBay Account ID: <the correct number>
Card: MSC XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-<correct last four digits>
    Expiration Date: <accurate>
    Date Reminder Issued: 051705

In order to receive uninterrupted service, please update this information.

To update your credit/debit card information:
    - Go to the eBay Home page
    - Select My eBay and logon with your eBay User ID and Password
    - Select the Accounts Tab
    - Select Use a credit card for automatic payments (you will need to logon again)
    - Update your credit card information following instructions on the next page

Say goodbye to credit card finance charges by signing up for Direct Pay, the easiest way to pay your eBay seller fees. To sign up, first go to www.ebay.com. Go to My eBay by clicking on the button at the top of any eBay page, and choose "Accounts". Then, select "Use a checking account for automatic payments".

    Thank you for using eBay.

    Regards,
    eBay Billing

No fancy EBay logos, no threats, no typos, no bad grammar, no link to click on, accurate details, and instructions to go to the EBay home page on your own, and proceed from there.image
