P.S. Your post got me looking at their site and they also have a '76 unopened wax box that looks nice. What do you all think that's "worth?" 1976 WAX BOX LINK
guys, I sure wouldn't touch that case BUT Steve at the BBCE does charge high premiums for ALOT of his inventory. If you ask me, there is no better unopened guy out there as far as trust goes. And TRUST is what you are paying for IMO

Absolutely...he has top notch stuff, and I know he is willing to work on pricing for big dollar stuff.
I wasn't trying to question the integrity, just thought it was a neat piece of merchandise...and makes me wonder how much of this unopened stuff is floating around.
Very exciting for '76 collectors, too bad the prices are so insanely high!
Looking at current '76 prices, is $700/box worth the return? Dennis Eckersley and Willie Randolph are major rookies and Pete Rose is big $$$ card (it appears) for the set. 1975 or 1978 would be good boxes to invest in for rookies (if that's your deal), but certainly not this set. Star potential, Hank Aaron final card and the same HOF'ers in '75 and '78 sets.
I will get hated on from '76 collectors, but I find this particular set the most unappealing of 70 sets Topps produced.

Axtell, I ALWAYS wonder about this. Its like sitting on the beach wishing you could just lift up the water for a minute and walk around and check out the fish population!
That 1976 case are few and far between I am sure. Just imagine what kind of buzz a 75 case would cause with the high collectibility of those cards!
I bought 4 wax boxes of 80 topps from bbckid for $275 a box. I noticed today they are $295, which is only $5 less than bbcexchange currently has. I was trolling last night and found a thread from 2003 where a member (cant remember who??) was asking if $200 was too much to spend on 1980 topps wax box.
Does Topps keep any retro cases in inventory? Where do resellers buy their cases from (word of mouth)?
Since the mid 70s people have been stocking unopened stuff up and putting it away. My best guess is that every once in a while a case like this surfaces from some schmoe who emptied out his basement/attic/storage and the buyers with the best rep gets first crack at it through ads or word of mouth. Actually, I think you'd be surprised at how many people had the foresight to stock this stuff away in the 70s and 80s, but at this point most of it has been sold and resold.
Very cool piece indeed. Not a huge rookie year but some nice second year cards of Brett and Yount along with the usual cast of HOF'ers. How much fun would that be to rip!
I bought a 75 MINI box from Steve 2 weeks ago, and may also buy another. He has 2 left. 1 graded and 1 non graded. The 76 case would be sweet, but would cause a divorce in my home.......
