81 Topps FB Cellos

I have 8 unopened cello FB packs from 1981 that I found in my closet when I moved away from home years back. I have resisted opening them since I found them in the early 90's, but now I am thinking about busting them open and seeing if I have a Montana rookie. I know they are real, I bought them straight out of the box when I worked at the local drug store stocking shelves and pushing a broom. I put them in a shoebox at home with some baseball cards and totally forgot about them.

8 packs and 27 cards per pack on a 528 card set, not bad odds, but not perfect for the Montana. No Montana on top or bottom and the best one that I can see is a Payton SA.

My question is do these cards in high grade have any value? The cards that I can see are in very nice shape. I fairly new to grading but I would guess at least 8's, with no obvious flaws, they may be better, but it's tough to tell inside the wrapper.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I've never sent in any cards for grading but when I join the club, these would be some of the first, if I bust them open.

Thanks

No, really...nice find. I would think about selling them "raw" as pack(s). Chances are if you did find a Montana it would be grossly off center. JMO. Another seeming hard to find card in that set is a graded Dan Hampton RC and dont forget K.Winslows RC.
If you dont have the stomach to sell them i would hold off as long as you can to open them ( we all know how hard that is).

    Good Luck

I would sell 'em singly on 'da bay, and put that money toward a nice Montana rookie.

Cellos are not the best places to pull high quality cards to grade from. Most of the time, the corners are pinched - making it very tough to find something 8 or better. They are also easy to search, as the sequence of cards is pretty well known for many years (I know this doesn't apply in your case, though). Still, people flock to this kind of thing on Ebay - so, you might want to sell them, not rip them.
