An end to advertising in this forum?
It happened just a few days ago in the Registry Forum LINK!
About 10 posts into the thread the big man himself stuck his head in and laid down the law. No advertising posts and a ban for those who ignore the rule. The majority of people who frequent the forum were not for the change. (Actually the majority didn't even see a problem at all) However once the subject was brought to his attention, Mr. Hall let the rules be known.
Mention was made of the Weekend Swap threads that are used here on the Darkside but even that idea was not allowed to be an option for them. Let's not let it happen here. Having to dredge through all the posts on the BST board to find a couple of Darkside items would quickly become too much to deal with.
I can see it easily getting out of control even here. There are those who post here only when they want to advertise something. Others whose sig lines, showing what they have for sale, are always longer than their actual posts! The ads can be good for both the buyers and the sellers as long as they don't become spam.
Any ideas on controlling things before they get controlled for us? Or are you like those in the Registry forum who didn't see a problem

I bet there is an interesting story behind all that anger!
Meanwhile this thread is about posts advertising things for sale ... not about the Registry.

Yeah, I would hope we could just do things per the typical Darkside protocol. People for the most part tend to get along here. Not only is that unusual compared to the other CU boards, it's unusual compared to almost any other boards I've seen on the internet.

This could be fatal for some members here since they don't have that much mind to spare.

Although to address the concern about wading through posts in the BST Forum, I always (and suggest others do as well) include "DARKSIDE!!!!" (or something to that effect with more or less exclamations

True, how true
One trend I have noticed this year is that there is less "penance" for SSP. Penance used to be standard along with SSP

I sure don't mind the SSPs and swaps, etc. I've purchased from a few of the darksiders due to posts or links in posts. I'd be bummed if they cracked down on us over here.

I hope things stay the same here too...it has worked so far.

I have bought great SSP'ed coins from aethelred, ajaan, syracusian, spinaker2000, rhound1977, python, coulport (where is he, anyway?), farthing, jamminj and even maccrimmon
I apologize if I left anyone out of that list.
Civility, friendship, and education abound in virtually all these posts. When a member posts an SSP there is almost always a bit of education or humor in the post and some SSP's have developed into excellent threads on their own.
The ability of this forum to self-police is a measure of its maturity and quality and as such we can be largely invisible to people who job it is to deal with problems and complaints.

the Darkside is fine...
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
A Darkside BST would also be fine by me, but not necessary, I like it here in the world and rarely venture into the other forums...
