Ricky Williams - HoF Bound?

AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
Just curious...hearing rumors he wants to come back, saying he feels he has 4,000 yards left in him.

If he does indeed rush for an additional 4k, that puts him over 10k yards for his career, which would put him in the top 15 of all time.

1. Emmitt Smith - 17,403
2. Walter Payton - 16,726
3. Barry Sanders - 15,269
4. Eric Dickerson - 13,259
5. Tony Dorsett - 12,739
6. Jerome Bettis - 12,353
7. Jim Brown - 12,312
8. Marcus Allen - 12,243
9. Franco Harris - 12,120
10. Thurman Thomas - 12,074
11. Curtis Martin - 11,669
12. John Riggins - 11,352
13. O.J. Simpson - 11,236
14. Marshall Faulk - 11,020
15. Ricky Watters - 10,741

Other than Watters, these are all either HoF currently, or sure-fire HoFers (and is Watters HoF bound? I'd say yes).

My point is, with him missing a year, and his off the field hijinks, does he make the hall if he hits 10k yards? I'd be willing to say that the voters will 'penalize' him and not make him a first ballot (a la Michael Irvin) but he will make the hall if he does indeed get 4000 more yards.

emmitt has over 18k now. that might be an old list?? bc i think bettis is over 13k now also. but for ricky to get the votes after what he did last year, might be tuff.

I don't see it happening without a team riding him to the Superbowl....he's already exhausted his "personal credit".

Personal issues aren't supposed to matter, but in these times, they do.

While his timing of 'retiring' left a lot to be admired (it left his team in really bad straits), I don't see how you can't admire a guy willing to walk away from millions and millions of dollars to pursue what makes him happy (i.e. weed) and not to subject his body to the ruthless pummeling that RB goes through.

Barry Sanders would have set a record that no one would be able to touch. Maybe forever. But, at least he left the game healthy and happy.

As a response to the thread title and subsequent dialogue....NO.

Further, why even consider this as a "what if." Who cares?? Why care?? The guy is out on his own volition. Who needs him, wants him or pulls for him?? He has decided his own destiny/footmark in football history...nobody else.

But there is the problem. He didn't walk away from millions, he thought he had $8M+ from the signing bonus. He didn't want the failed drug test to become a national story, so he thought he could just walk away and be contempt with that much cash. When the judge ruled in favor of Miami, Ricky thought, "Oh crap, I done f'ed up".

Admire Jim Brown and Barry Sanders for walking away from the game; not Ricky.
