IKE COLOR SET - WITH VARIETIES......

image
Today I finished my Ike color set with varieties. I had no idea how difficult it would be to complete.
When I first started ( 4 years ago ) I thought maybe 6 or 8 months. That was not to be the case. I started listing them in the registry about 2 years ago.
I discovered that a few color coins could be found, but a complete set was more of a challenge than I expected. I have attended most shows in a 500 mile radius for the last 4 years, searched teletrade and ebay, called dozens, and dozens of coin stores, and any and all sources that I could find.
Now I will take a breather, and slowly up-grade as I go along.

    AWESOME accomplishment!!!!!imageimage

Been working mine for almost 5 years.

Depends on how much color we describe as color, and what colors.

Gold/Brown is very common on Ikes, it's when we get greens/reds/blues that are real, that things get tough.

I finished my Silver Proofs in PKOK about two weeks ago!!! All PF68DCAM's. I know how tough it is.

I'm working on the MS with varieties in color as well.

Congrats on completing the set. PICS????? Or a link to your set???

  • Congrats!!! I cant wait to see pics -- I love toned Ikes!

Here's my two NGC sets I've been working on -- not the most outrageous color or highest grades, but nice Dansco toning on these puppies --

    CoinDog,
Good Luck on the error set!....Like the toned set,....tough ones will be the 73's and the blue and red packs.

    Toned Ike Nut,
Nice sets !! Color coins ( Ike ) are far more difficult to find than Morgans, or Peace.
As a matter of fact I would estimate that at least 99.999 % of raw coins have artificial toning.
You have some very nice color coins- congrats !!!
  • Thanks everyone - its going to be tough to finish this set off and upgrade it later.

As for the coins in my set, they are all raw purchases that I have made with little or no premium for the color. Most have been cherry picked from Dansco and Whitman albums personally so I know they aint AT. They arent that colorful, but I try to stay away from monsters -- especially Ikes because I do suspect many are AT, even ones in slabs.

I've got a couple more I'm submitting to NGC tomorrow @ LB, but I still need a bunch of the silver issues. These arent easy coins to find, but for some reason the Dansco albums do a nice job of toning clads. I just wanted a nice MS ike set and I figured I try something different with the toned ones, I then picked up a couple of toned proofs so I decided to try that as well. I'm selling off my regular proof ike registry set cause I've just come to like the toners better.
