Medals...How do you store and display them?

I have for some time collected various "Medals" up to I would say 68mm. How do you store these and keep them protected? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Nice cabinet....It must have cost a fortune or taken some one a long time to make. Very nice.

I place mine on stands, like the ones used for plates only smaller, and display them in a curio cabinet.

Cathy - You have some beauties in there. You and catchman have some of the most facinating medals I have ever seen.
Where do you get those small stands - all I can find in the local craft stores are too big?

This is where I got mine-inexpensive and a few varieties of them: Potomac.

I would say that the best medals here are in Askari's and Cacheman's collections. Mine don't come even remotely close. BTW has anyone seen Askari lately? It's been awhile since I've seen him around.

Cathy, I've been wondering the same lately. The last time Mark was logged on was April 12th. image

Thank you all. You have given me some good ideas.....Lets see what I come up with. Until then, any suggestions on how to SAFELY store in a safe, Maybe a source for some large non-pvc flips?

Both of my stacked cabinets sit within a large safe...they weren't photographed originally in the safe because I hadn't bought the safe yet. These cabinets have a combined storage area of over 100 square feet. This amount of space should handle about 400 of the Goetz medals, and medallions, however, if you plan on collecting 36mm medals then there are plenty of companies that manufacture notebooks you can slip into a safe. Ebay has lots of safes....

cacheman, Did you craft the chest unit or did some one else make it to your specs? I would be interested in the shop drawings to either make one simular myself, or have one made by my casework guy. Very nice unit. I have plenty of room to incorporate the unit into either one of my safes. Both Very large. Plans would be great if they are still around.

Nope, I ordered mine through a reseller who bought them from these guys

I got a deal at $300 a pop (12 drawer) but if they are going in a safe you could probably go with the 'architectural' cabinets which don't have all the fine finish except on the front as they are intended to be 'built-in' to cabinets and so forth. You can find these at Bill Harvey's web-site Home-Museum.com and I believe they go for a lot cheaper even though they have the same interior. Tell Bill hi for me...
