Can someone please give me a "best guess" price on a
1886-P, 1886-S $5 gold Liberty MS 65 NGC
I do not know the pop of NGC coins.
1886-P PCGS has a pop of 2 with 1 coin higher in 66.
1886-S PCGS has a pop of 2 in 65, with none higher.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks
Mike

The 1886 in MS65 has low pops on both PCGS and NGC (a couple of pieces at best). This is a significant rarity in MS65. No doubt worth over $10,000 as such. Seems like it should be worth in the $10,000 to $15,000 range...strictly grade of course. A low end piece might not bring $10,000 if buyers felt it was basically a PQ64.
The huge discrepancy between PCGS and NGC pops on the 86-s is quite strange. Usually it's not this bad. It just could be that a large number of those 40 pieces would not make PCGS standards. And I doubt that an original roll of this date was sent to NGC for grading and that's why they have so many gems listed. But stranger things have happened.
