Lincoln variety question- Help needed.

JRoccoJRocco Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭✭
I know the 58D has some wild varieties like the 58D/D/D/D/D and I know this is not that variety, but what the heck is going on with this. It looks like some wild die cracks/breaks under the tip of the 9, but what is with the raised elements to the right of the MM? Any help will be appreciated. I have more pics if needed , but they all show the same basic view.

Could also be a lamination spot.

I have seen some coins where the lamination bubble did not burst leaving the field with jagged raised look to it. I had assumed the area was a lamination (on the coins I saw) because other parts of the coins did have a laminations which burst and left the telltale flap of metal.

Die gouges...back in the day of Frank Spadone, this would have been callsed some sort of "comet" variety, but in truth it is nothing more than die damage from some sort of tool.
