Speared Nickels

can anyone tell me where the Speared buffalo Nickels are coming from. From what I have been seeing on ebay is that many have come out of Texas. I was wondering if any could be found in the mint sets (mint wrapped and over charged) or if they are out of the bank rolls?

thanks

sorry if this question is lame

How dare you ask such a lame question! (JK)

    ;-)

I believe they've come out of both bank rolls and the Mint wrapped ones.

the main reason I ask is that I have a bunch of early date boxed sets from the mint (2nd day)... but dont want to break them open just yet (give them to family for gifts)... but I would like to go through some coins and find a speared to put away... but not sure when/where they were found (im guessing it was a small run and probably shipped to a certain area..not sure though).

    Bank rolls.
    Mainly texas it would seem.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

None have been found from mint rolls. They all come from an area of East Texas stretching from northern Dallas to Tyler, iirc. Neptune would know more, since she discovered it. They have all been found in bank rolls ONLY.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

These are little more then a minor die state VAM. However, due to the fact they were first noticed by a female member of this forum everyone has gone goo-goo over them. I wouldn't pay 50 cents for one.

Wow, talk about a post that had absolutely nothing to do with the initial question image...I wouldn't pay much of a premium for one myself, but then again I wouldn't pay a premium for a VAM either. However, there is plenty of room in the hobby for collectors of all types of coins. I have learned from the Speared Bison thing that we have a lot of green-eyed monsters around here. Better call Ghost Busters!

what GAT said. though it's easily noticed and has been hyped well with a catchy name, i don't have any interest in it, especially at the prices it's been bid to on eBay. hopefully PCGS won't include it in the Jefferson variety set.

    What a crock!

    Now back to the topic:

Banks rolls from East Texas (with a capital 'T'), in answer to the question. I wouldn't open any mint sets to seek SB's - that's not to say there aren't any - but I haven't heard of any from that source.

Edited to add, I wonder what someone else would have called it. Possibly something boring such as: extremely long - wonderfully placed - reverse die gouge that 'looks like' a spear going through the Buffalo - hocky-crock. image

I agree, mostly East Texas. I think this Speared error is great, it gets new people interested in coin collecting.
