A MONSTER COLOR Toned Arkansas... GRADE REVEALED...

dizzyfoxxdizzyfoxx Posts: 9,823 ✭✭✭
Here is an incredible Color-toned Arkansas. I would love to hear thoughts regarding it and opinions on grade. It is much more impressively toned than the scans suggest. The actual NGC MS grade will be revealed later. Thanks for your opinions! Drum roll please............ It is graded NGC MS65! Thanks for all of your input and opinons. They are very much appreciated. dizzyfoxximageimageimage

I think it looks really nice, and I'll guess that it is graded MS66.

The scan doesn't have enough resolution for me to feel confident, but I'd say 65. Too many hits on obverse...Mike

    ACG grade- 68

I see it as a nice 65 but looks kind of flat- in hand may look awesome. JMHFO..

Looks ms/65 from the images, if the luster is nice, MAYBE 66. Centrally weak, and the prime focal area of the obverse is clean, but there are a fair amount of ticks/hits in the background.

    Fantastic eye appeal.

It's always hard to tell from images (Standard boilerplate excuse in case I'm wrong image) but it looks like an NGC MS64* to me. Pretty coin!

    MS64
  • Beautiful!! I would call it a 64 with the nicks and marks on the obverse. It might get a bump to 65 for the color. It would fit in my collection!!image

Damn! I KNEW it was going to be 65 image

I figured NGC would have given it the ol' purdy color bump image

I still call it MS64. There are too many hits on the portrait and the reverse is too weakly struck for MS65. I do agree with the person who said NGC gave it a bump point for color.

    Mozin,

I understand your thinking, but the hits aren't in the prime focus area, they are in the secondary area, or background. The central portions of the obverse, are virtually pristine. The coin screams original (the services usually reward a coin with eye appeal such as this) and the weaker central reverse is common on this issue.

That's why counting hits/ticks isn't a good, or proper way to grade. So many of us grade like that, and it's flat out incorrect. Eye appeal and luster count just as much in coming up with a given grade on a coin.

I love the coin. My local dealer (who might be Iwog in disguise image) would say "too dark, everybody wants white coins..."

Got in on this too late but wonderful looking coin. Just one or two ticks from being a higher grade imo.
