ANS COAC Presentations

A frequent poster here asked for more info about the American Numismatic Society's COAC -- the Coinage of the Americas Conference. The conference brings together researchers, leading scholars, and collectors to treat a single numismatic subject in an academic but collegial way. The papers presented are usually in-depth original research, sometimes on an obscure or very specific subject. A few years after each conference the ANS usually comes out with a published collection of the papers. The one for 1999 is currently in the publication stage. Some of the past proceedings volumes are available here.
See more info on the ANS website here or some commentaty about Harry Bass's magnificent display of gold at the 1989 COAC here.
The ANS recently moved to downtown Manhattan on William Street, a spot that is much easier and more fun to visit than the old spot uptown. The library has open stacks and the collection can be viewed (in digestible portions, not all at once) with an appointment. You can get more info about the ANS at their website http://www.amnumsoc.org/.
