Mail fraud used to be dealt with severely and this should be dealt with in the same way. Having said that, nothing (usually) will happen in this instance. Fake e-mail, e-mail scams, outright fraud are usually ignored by this whose responsibility it is (or should be) to deal with them appropriately.image

On an off topic subject, after moving my dad from his home to an assisted living community, he sent change of address forms and cancellation notices to a variety of services, (direct TV, phone, electrical, magazine subscriptions, etc.) and without exception was continually re-billed or mail continually sent to the wrong address by every one of these services. It took several phone calls for each, going through unending phone menus, deliberately vague, before he and I managed to get things cancelled or changed.

I seems to me that organizations make it difficult to change obligations (i.e. cancel or change) and spurious e-mails are among the worst of offenders and the most difficult to deal with.

The internet is still in its infancy and I would welcome comments on how this seemingly all-pervasive service needs to get its act together.
