Theory on .10 cent listing days

Is it just me, or does there seem to be an excessive number of overpriced cards?

My theory is that they will list it overpriced with the hopes of it selling...if not, well it was just 10 cents. Am I completely off base here, or have others seen the same?

exactly.. i think this has been discussed in several threads.. if the price isnt right, why be scared to haggle?

  • Personally I think its great. Thanks to the listing bargains, 2 more scarce PSA 8 38 Goudeys have come to light. Of course i'm not going to buy them, but it is nice to see some of the very scarce cards out there... even if it is just eye candy.

  • Plus, "overpriced" cards will sell if they indeed are low POP. I had a "Ace" Bailey sport king that I really loved graded NM 7. With 10 cent listing day, I thought "What the heck, i'll throw it on for a dime". Used buy it now, figuring I could emotionally let it go for an even $1,000. SMR is $550. Within 4 hours, it was sold. Turns out the winner needed only 4 more for a straight NM 7 Sport king set and was more than happy to finally find "Ace" after 8 years of looking.

Sent it out today. Even with the double SMR selling price, I'm a touch sad since the card was so beautiful.

It is always hard to part with your vintage cards. But sometimes the money needs to be re-invested. It's almost like a trade. Now you can use that $1,000 for something else in your hobby or to pay the mortgage. Whatever is more important.

As for 10 cent listing day. Of course people are going to overprice items, that's the whole idea. However, there are some unique items that come up sometimes. Maybe you can do an off ebay deal for them.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

I was able to list lots of nice 72 topps football stars and rookies that i might not have listed otherwise. Most nm and I started all at either $1.99 or $2.99. Should be a good deal for the buyer and i move some stuff that is gathering dust. There are cards that dealers would charge at least $10-15 each for at shows or in their shop.
for the most part...and even more so with the 10 cent fixed price listing day...too many sellers taking up space with stupid prices for cards that nobody wants. For example...psa 6 and 7 70 topps basketball commons with prices of $10-20!

    My .02!!

.10 listing days bring out all of the dreamers, and sellers just wanted to fish for suckers. Unfortunately, it drowns out all of the legit listings for a while - I have been listing on Tuesdays for a while now, and took this one off because of this. Doesn't seem like you save much anyway, if you start your listings out low, and let the marketplace rule...

  • when .10 day comes around again i will make sure to take a 10 day vacation from ebay. It's horrible sorting thru all the b.s overpriced garbage.Does it annoy anyone else as much as me??image
  • you can thank the former shoeless joe for thousands upon thousands of those listings. The cards sit unsold in his shop for 30 days, then he relists using buy it now, then he relists again with the auction format. all the same inflated price of course clogging up the bay.
