Opinion on selling bulk of collection - individually or one huge auction?

Alright, here is my situation; my girlfriend is moving into my place in a few months (actually the truth and not some BS attempt to get people to buy my stuff). I am going to try and sell off a bulk of my collection (not all, just stuff I either have doubles of or no longer want). My question is, would I do better if I listed the stuff individually or as one huge lot. Just to be clear, I am asking for serious advice. I am not spaming for a sale. If people are offended by me posting this here, that is not my intention. I have a ebay rating of 53 with 100%. Here is a partial list of what I have:

Mickey Mantle 1965 Topps PSA 4
Mickey Mantle 1966 Topps PSA 5
Mickey Mantle 1964 Topps PSA 6

Ed Konetchy 1909 T206 PSA 1

Wade Boggs 1983 Fleer raw
Tony Gwynn 1983 Fleer raw
Tony Gwynn 1983 Topps raw
Nolan Ryan 1984 Donruss raw
Barry Bonds 1986 Topps Traded BGS 9
Ken Griffey Jr. 1989 Upper Deck BGS 9
Nolan Ryan 1982 Topps PSA 8
Nolan Ryan 1983 Topps PSA 9

A bunch of 2004 Playoff Prime Cuts

A few binders of commons and semi-stars from 1960 - 1979 ranging in condition from poor to ex-mt (avg. is excellent) separated by year and in # order (for the most part)

about 20 cards from 1952 - 1956

framed auto of Duke Snider, Lou Boudreau, Bob Feller, Johnny Vander Meer and Robin Roberts (all with COAs not PSA DNA but notary publics with pictures of them signing)

some money cards from the 1975 set including a Brett rookie (probably get a PSA 5)

about 15,000 modern garbage from various companies

A bunch (6 or 7) more of 1986 raw Bonds Topps Traded cards

Plus other stuff.

I've learnt (the hard way) that selling items individually yields more profit.

    I vote 'individually'
  • Definitely individually. If you hurry up you can get some listed tonight for a dime apiece.

  • Also just wanted to point out - you can take advantage of the cheap listing fees even if you don't have your scans ready to go. Most of the major bidding action will be in the final 24 hours, so you can list a 7 day auction with a good description tonight and then update with scans over the next couple of days. Just a thought.

Anything that has $5+ potential should go individually, but you can lump all the semi-stars and commons by year and sell them as set building lots. That's how I'd do it.

  • I would do it by lots with cards that have something in common.

Your low feedback may impact the prices you will get.

I agree with the above. Individually is the way to go, and if you list tonight (with good descriptions) you can update the pics over the next day or two and it will only cost you 10 cents a piece to do it. Make sure you note that a scan will be forthcoming in the auction so people at least watch it.

Individually is always the way to go. It costs you a bit more just because of the listing fees and if you take paypal you'll be paying those fees on a bunch of different transactions and it's a bit more work than just boxing up a single lot but I think it will pay dividends to you.

Good luck, whatever you end up doing.
